I am thinking about starting a nonprofit organization where we pick up special needs moms from their homes on a Friday night in a luxury sprinter van, complete with yummy snacks and beverages. At the very same time, at each home, we drop off sweet Mary-Poppins-meets-The Rock-specially-trained caregivers. Therefore, the moms can leave in peace and comfort, knowing that their children (of any age) with disabilities are well-covered and safe. We drive the moms to an open field, and let them scream or dance, or BOTH, for 30 minutes, followed by dropping them off at a dreamy spa hotel for the weekend, all pampering and hotel services paid for. When they arrive home, the house is clean and orderly with Sunday dinner prepared, AND with Monday dinner in the freezer.
Who is ready to invest???
When I ask special needs moms what they need most in the daily trenches, it is two things: child care assistance in everyday life and respite. A BREAK away from their children and the endless care-giving responsibilities. They want to sleep through the night, have no schedule to follow, no medications to administer, no little or big ones to keep safe and stable every minute of every day.
A bonus opportunity would be to spend a weekend at home ALONE in their own house accomplishing projects, organizing, cleaning with a professional organizer. OH… and get some REST in their very own beds. Again, with no alarm clocks or reminders set on their phones.
While I cannot offer all that I think and dream of, for helping special needs moms…yet…I can offer weekends of respite and rest through We Are Brave Together. Two nights away, lodging, food, inspirational speakers, and goody bags! For only $150 per mom to attend. WABT covers the rest of the costs.
To come together with a group of women who automatically GET YOU and are ready to support you and cheer you on, is truly comforting and transformative.
Our weekends away have been such a huge success and something we are so proud to offer. The feedback has been glowing. And we have repeat attendees who love this time together to share, laugh so hard, and of course, shed a few tears. The feeling of sisterhood permeates our souls and fills us all with strength as we go back into our crazy-precious life.
AND…after this quarantine, we are ALL going to really need some time off. Stat!
Everyone in life needs a BREAK. A time to slow down. A time to reset, reflect, and rest. It is a gift. I hope that you give yourself that. Without guilt. Ever. We must take time to fill up our souls, create new sparks, and rest our monkey minds. Whether you do it alone or in community with beloved others, just do it.
Promise me that you will.
